Privacy Policy
Effective 6 July 2026
Parlena is made by Vectolab. This policy explains, in plain terms, what data the app collects, why, and who processes it. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Your account
By default you use Parlena through an anonymous account created with Firebase Authentication — no name, email, or password required. You can optionally sign in with Google or Apple so your progress follows you across devices; if you do, we receive the basic account identifier from that provider (and, where you allow it, your email). That's it.
What we store
We keep the data needed to run the app and remember where you are:
- Your learning progress, levels, and streaks.
- Your saved vocabulary (your word chest).
- Scenarios you create, and — if you publish one — its public listing.
- App settings, such as your target language and preferences.
- A push-notification token, if you turn on reminders, so we can send them.
This is stored in Google Firestore. Each account can only read and write its own data.
Conversations and voice
When you play a scene, the text of the conversation is sent to an AI language-model provider to generate the character's replies and your after-scene coaching. When you speak, your voice is transcribed on your device by the operating system's speech recognizer — the app does not upload your audio. Only the resulting text is sent to produce the reply. The AI's written reply is then synthesized into speech by a text-to-speech provider so the character can talk back.
Subscriptions and payments
Parlena Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those stores handle the purchase and billing — we never see or store your payment details. We only receive whether your subscription is active.
Analytics and crash reports
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to
understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. This tells us things
like which scenes are played and where errors happen — not who you are.
We do not use this data to track you across other apps, and app tracking
is disabled (NSPrivacyTracking = false).
Who processes your data
To run Parlena we rely on a small set of processors:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), analytics, crash reporting, push delivery.
- Google Gemini — the AI language model that generates conversation replies and coaching.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting for our backend.
- MiniMax — text-to-speech that turns the AI's reply text into the character's voice.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — subscription billing.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: Me → account → Delete account. This wipes your data from our servers. You can also email us and we'll do it for you.
Your rights
Wherever you live — including under the GDPR (Europe) and CCPA (California) — you can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Deletion and export are available in-app, or by writing to hello@parlena.ai. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights, and we do not sell personal information.
Children
Parlena isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app. Continuing to use Parlena means you accept the current version.
